Hip Hop • Politics • Authority

With major project being our big unit of the year, we were allowed to choose our own path and write a brief related to our chosen topic. Of course it still had to relate back to graphic design, so I chose the topic of hip–hop, as well as it’s relationship with politics and the authority. Each section would focus on a different artist, looking into their relationship with all 3 categories, throughout their life, family and music. Each of the songs that are featured in the book have been decoded using symbols that are explained at the start, and abstractly link to the subject. Due to the western culture, readers will begin to recognise and remember the symbols through their use of colour and shape. In essence, the book is a helpful journey through the word of hip–hop, allowing avid fans and casual listeners to both equally enjoy the book and learn whilst reading it.
